Bronze Medallion

Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue)

The Surf Lifesaver is seen as the iconic symbol of Australia and to join the ranks of these dedicated volunteers you will need to be the holder of a bronze medallion. Training for your bronze medallion is one of the most rewarding things you will do, you will learn vital lifesaving resuscitation skills that may one day save the life of someone you know. You will come away with a deep knowledge and respect for the ocean and the skills to operate in it that are envied by many.

You will also enhance your capacity to work in a team in sometimes difficult situations, and you’ll enjoy a sense of camaraderie not often encountered.

At Nobbys SLSC we run three bronze medallion courses during the summer season, Sept-Oct, Nov-Dec and Jan-Feb.

The course takes eight weeks with assessment in the ninth week, theory work and resuscitation training happens on Wednesday night in the clubhouse from 5:30 to 7:30 and practical (wet) training on Sunday mornings starting at 8:30am.

Bronze medallion training is open to anyone 15 years or older who demonstrates a swimming capacity by completing a timed pool swim of 400 metres in less than 9 minutes.

Surf Rescue Certificate

The Surf Rescue Certificate is typically the award that our under fourteens (Minimum age 13) train for, this is the highest award that our junior lifesavers can attain before leaving the nippers and joining the senior club.

The “SRC” is kind of a junior bronze with most of the same elements adapted for the junior lifesaver. Candidates are required to demonstrate their swimming ability by completing a pool swim of 200 metres in less than 5 minutes. As with the bronze medallion the course covers all aspects of surf lifesaving theory and practice.

The “SRC” is not restricted to our junior members, many nipper parents take on the challenge of training to attain their Surf Rescue Certificate because apart from allowing them the opportunity to learn life saving knowledge and skills it also gives them the chance to swim the cans with their children as water safety officers.

SRC courses for adults are run alongside the bronze courses, so you can start doing an “SRC” course and end up with a bronze medallion.
